Reciprocity

We are pleased to offer dining, bar, and docking for visiting members of reciprocal yacht clubs, as space is available. We welcome visiting yachtsmen and encourage small and even larger groups such as cruise ins to enjoy the Aeolian flavor!

If arriving by boat, it is important to make advance arrangements with the club. With prior notice, we are happy to host visiting yachtsmen on a space available basis. Visiting yachts must fly their home club burgee and check in with the office. If you are not a member of any yacht club, please contact the office about scheduling a site visit, or possibly membership in Aeolian Yacht Club, if that is your cup of tea.

Aeolian Yacht Club has reciprocal privilege agreements with a large number of yacht clubs throughout the greater San Francisco Bay area, United States, Canada, Mexico and several other foreign countries. Any yacht club member is extended key privileges of Aeolian Yacht Club at any time for use of the club's available facilities and services, including short term berthing, meal and bar service, heads and showers, etc. Aeolian does not charge for overnight berthing and it seldom matters whether you come by boat or car. It is always prudent to call ahead to let us know of your plans so that we can accommodate them.

Invitation to Yacht Clubs

This is a special invitation to your yacht club to cruise in for a fun-weekend sometime during your "cruise out" season. Aeolian is located next to the Bay Farm Island Bridge at the southernmost part of the island city of Alameda. We take pride in honoring the tradition and heritage of our 1906 Club and wish to extend our hospitality to your members as well. We can easily accommodate 12-15 boats of average size through the use of our portable docks. Our private membership of capable volunteers cook great dinners upon request and our newly remodeled bar is available to serve you.

We hope you will put Aeolian Yacht Club on your "interested list" of places to visit this coming year. We would love to have you with us and to give you personally that Great Aeolian Welcome!

Cruise In Information

Please refer to the Navigation Instructions section of our web site for charts of the San Leandro Bay and our harbor. The chart is also located in the Yachtsman Chart Book (Northern California, 6th Edition), page 20. There are times when at low tide, the channel is quite narrow, however, it is certainly navigable at most times.

You can reach us either: (1) from the West through the San Leandro Channel and under the Bay Farm Island Bridge. The Bay Farm Island Bridge operator is available for opening seven days a week from 8 am to 5 pm with the exception of Monday-Friday commute traffic; and (2) from the Oakland Estuary by way of three bridges, Park Street, Fernside (Miller Sweeney) and High Street. All three bridges may be opened any time 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with the exception also of M-F commute times. All you need to do as you approach the first bridge is to call them on VHF Channel 9 to request a bridge opening for all three bridges. As you approach, each bridge is opened. It's a snap!

Aeolian Yacht Club monitors Channel 68 when there is a cruise in. When we know you are coming, we can be available to guide you in at any point.

In addition to Aeolian's great hospitality - our volunteer member chefs serve great dinners and breakfasts and our volunteer member bar tenders are there when you need a "lift" - there are wonderful walking paths along the shoreline of the Bay either to the west or to the east. Downtown Alameda can be reached by turning right out of the front driveway entrance to Aeolian, walking three blocks to Encinal Avenue, turning left and proceeding to Park Street. Turn right onto Park Street for a myriad of restaurants and stores. Distance is a little less than two miles. A small shopping center with a café, catering service, grocery store is located at the corner of High Street and Encinal less than a mile from Aeolian.

Close in the other direction to Aeolian is the Harbor Bay Landing Shopping Center with a Safeway, Long's Drugs and several restaurants, fitness center and other stores. As you exit the front driveway entrance to Aeolian, turn left and proceed over the walkway bridge. At the bottom of the walkway bridge, cross the street (Island Drive) and continue on Island Drive for four blocks. The shopping center is on your right.

Aeolian does not charge for guest berthing. You are welcome to enjoy the Aeolian Clubhouse with restrooms, showers, washer and dryer, television and pool table. The front door and gate remain locked at all times. Should you leave the building, you will need a key to return. We will photocopy your driver's license and a major credit card once you are given a key. If it is returned, the paperwork will be destroyed. Should it not be returned, your credit card will be charged $25.00 for the key.

We hope you enjoy your stay with us. If there are other questions, just let us know.
