Instructions through the Oakland Estuary route to the Aoelian Yacht Club

1. Since the channel is 5 ft at a zero tide, the following is a minimum depth chart recommended for easy passage through this route:

  • 3 foot tide or higher if your boat draws 6 feet (this should leave a 2 foot margin) [typical 35 ' sailboat]
  • 1 foot tide or higher if your boat draws 4 feet (this should leave a 2 foot margin) [typical 35' powerboat]
  • Best to transit on a rising tide if possible

2. Travel South East through the Park St., Fruitvale, and High St. bridges. These may be contacted on channel 9. The are manned 24 hours per day, but will not open during M-F regular working days during rush hour. Rush hour closure is 8 AM - 9 AM and 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM. These rush hour closures to not apply to holidays that fall on a M-F. Currents may be strong under the bridges. It is not uncommon to have 3 knot flows.

3. After passing through the third bridge, the High Street bridge, there will be a large green marker "G1" on a steel pole which you will leave to your Port side [N37deg 45.531' x W122deg 13.437'].

4. Head on a 165 deg course direct to the stacks off in the distance.

5. Follow the route indicated from the navigation chart.
